How do I get to Villa Onu Mentawai?
Fly to Padang (PDG), usually via Jakarta or Bali, and stay one night there. Take the Mentawai Fast Ferry to Tuapejat, which runs roughly three times a week, or the Susi Air flight which runs twice weekly. We collect you in Tuapejat and transfer you to the villa. Add our Regular Transfer Service, or upgrade to VIP Transfer to have the whole chain handled from the moment you land.
How far is the surf from the villa?
HT’s is right out front, roughly a 3 to 5 minute paddle. There are 10+ other breaks within a short scooter ride or walking distance.
Do I need a boat to surf?
No. Most nearby breaks are reachable by paddle or scooter, so you are never tied to a boat schedule. For further spots such as Macaronis we can arrange a speedboat at additional cost.
Is the villa suitable for beginners?
The area is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers, but there are more forgiving waves nearby depending on conditions, and surf lessons are available. Plenty of mixed level groups stay here.
What if I do not surf at all?
Still completely worth it. Infinity pool, sport fishing with professional gear and a fish finder, snorkelling, kayaks, island walks, cinema room and massage. Villa Onu works as an island retreat as much as a surf base.
Are kids allowed?
Yes, families are very welcome. Because of reef breaks and ocean conditions, supervision matters at all times. Babysitting can be arranged at additional cost, and the connecting Family Room sleeps up to four.
What happens if the island loses power?
We run two large backup generators so power stays on through island outages, which is not something every surf camp or villa in Mentawai can offer. Starlink WiFi stays up with it.
Is the speedboat included?
It is included when you book the entire private villa. On room rate bookings a private speedboat can be arranged at additional cost and may be shared with other guests. Most nearby spots do not need one.
If I book Room Only, can I still eat at the villa?
Yes. Let us know 2 to 4 hours in advance and the chef will cook for you.
Do I need to bring cash?
Yes. There are no ATMs nearby and small services such as ding repair are cash only.
