How to get to the Mentawai Islands

Step 1: Fly to Padang (PDG)

The gateway to the Mentawai Islands is Minangkabau International Airport (PDG) in Padang, West Sumatra.

Fly from Jakarta, Bali, Kuala Lumpur, or Singapore. Jakarta has the most daily connections.

Major routes to Padang:

• Jakarta (CGK): Garuda, Citilink, Super Air Jet, Batik Air, AirAsia (27+ daily flights)

• Bali (DPS): Lion Air, Citilink, Batik Air, Garuda (usually with layover in Jakarta)

• Kuala Lumpur (KUL): AirAsia

• Singapore (SIN): Scoot

If you are flying from from an International Airport to Padang, Visa On Arrival (VOA) is available at immigration in Padang.

Surfboard tip: Many Indonesian Airlines may charge per board, per flight segment. Pack smart and confirm baggage fees in advance.

Step 2: (Optional) Overnight Stay in Padang

Traditionally, travelers needed to stay overnight in Padang due to early ferry or flight departures. However, with the new Wings Air schedule and early morning flights from Jakarta, it’s now possible to skip the overnight stop — in some cases.

For example, Super Air Jet offers a Jakarta (CGK) to Padang (PDG) flight departing 5:00 AM and arriving 6:45 AM, giving you enough time to catch the Wings Air flight to Mentawai at 10:30 AM the same day.

Important: This only works if your inbound flight arrives with enough connecting time for your 10.30 am Wings Air flight. 

If your flight doesn’t match this schedule, or if you’re taking the Mentawai Fast Ferry (which departs early in the morning), you’ll still need to stay overnight in Padang.

Step 3: Ferry or Flight to Mentawai

Option A: Wings Air Flight

• Route: Padang (PDG) → Rokot Airport, Mentawai (RKI)
• Schedule: Mondays & Fridays — Departs 10:30 AM
• Duration: ~50 minutes
• Aircraft: ATR 72-600, 70 seats

Surfboards allowed, but strict fees apply:

• Max 200cm length
• IDR 1,000,000 per board, per leg

Option B: Mentawai Fast Ferry

• Route: Padang → Tuapejat (Sipora Island)
• Schedule: Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays
• Departure: 7:00 AM (must arrive at port ~6:00 AM)
• Duration: ~3.5 to 4 hours

Step 4: Land Transfer to Katiet

Whether you arrive at Rokot Airport (via Wings Air) or Tuapejat Port (via ferry), our team will be there to greet you.

Your boards and bags will be loaded by our team. Relax and enjoy the last stretch of the journey!

The journey takes about 2 hours from Rokot Aiport, and 2.5 hours from Tuapajet.
